Nineteen pilgrims, eleven large cases

Toyota Coaster minibus for pilgrim groups in Saudi Arabia

The Coaster is the step between a family van and a full coach: nineteen pilgrims in one vehicle, with eleven large cases behind them rather than a hold underneath.

Nineteen seats, and the driver is not in the count

Toyota Saudi Arabia sells the Coaster with twenty occupants including the driver, on both the petrol and the diesel grade. We sell nineteen of those seats and the driver takes the twentieth, so the number you book is the number of pilgrims who travel. Groups are usually quoted by seat count alone, which is exactly how a party of nineteen ends up standing at the door of an eighteen-seat vehicle.

Eleven large cases, and why we do not claim more

Toyota publishes no luggage volume for the Coaster in any market, so there is no factory figure to quote and we do not invent one. Eleven large cases is our own operated figure and it is what the booking is held to. Be realistic about it: with all nineteen seats occupied the space behind the last row is what remains, and nineteen pilgrims each with a checked case is a coach booking rather than this one.

What Toyota publishes for this vehicle

Toyota Saudi Arabia lists the Coaster at 6,990 mm long, 2,080 mm wide and 2,635 mm high on a 3,935 mm wheelbase, with a 6.5-metre turning circle. The petrol grade is a 2.7-litre four-cylinder at 145 hp with a six-speed manual; the diesel is a 2.8-litre turbo at 147 hp and 420 Nm with a six-speed automatic. Both grades share those dimensions, so the choice is the drivetrain and nothing else.

Minibus or coach for a pilgrim group

Up to nineteen pilgrims with hand baggage and a handful of cases between them: the Coaster. More than nineteen, or nineteen each with a checked case, is a coach, which carries its luggage in a hold under the floor rather than behind the seats. Declaring the group size and the cases together at the search stage is what puts you in the right one.
