During Hajj season (approx. May–July), entry to Makkah is strictly prohibited for holders of Tourist, Business, and Family Visit visas. You must have a specific Hajj Permit or Nusuk Hajj Visa. Police checkpoints are stationed on the Jeddah-Makkah highway. Violators face fines of up to 10,000 SAR and deportation.

1. Before You Fly: Visa Requirements

Saudi Arabia has digitized its entry process. Before booking your taxi, ensure your paperwork is in order.

📋 Tourist eVisa

Valid for 1 year (multiple entry). Allows you to perform Umrah outside of Hajj season. Not valid for working or studying.

2. Landing at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED)

Jeddah Airport is massive. Your experience depends entirely on which terminal you land in. Don’t book a pickup without knowing your terminal.

Terminal 1 (New)

Airlines: Saudia, Flynas, British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways.

The Experience: World-class modern facility. Contains the aquarium, train station, and primary taxi pick-up zones.

North Terminal

Airlines: Budget airlines and some international carriers not on SkyTeam.

The Experience: Older facility. Often more crowded. No train station here. You must take a taxi to Makkah.

Hajj Terminal

Used For: Charter Hajj flights and some seasonal Umrah groups.

The Experience: Open-air tent structure. Very few amenities. Note: Regular taxis cannot easily enter the secure zone here. Pre-booking a private driver is essential.

3. The “On-Arrival” Checklist

Do these three things before you leave the airport:

Get a SIM Card: STC, Mobily, and Zain have kiosks in T1 Arrivals. You will need your passport and visa number. Expect to pay ~80-100 SAR for a visitor data package.
Currency Exchange: ATMs are available, but it’s wise to carry 500 SAR in cash for small purchases (food, tips) as not all local shops in Makkah accept cards.
Ihram Check: If you are going directly to Makkah for Umrah, you should already be in Ihram. If you need to change, there are designated shower facilities in Terminal 1 (Departure & Arrival areas) and the Hajj Terminal.

4. Getting to Makkah: Train vs. Taxi vs. Bus

The Haramain High-Speed Train is excellent, but it has limitations for pilgrims with heavy luggage.

💡 ZAMZAM WATER ALERT

You cannot simply buy Zamzam water at the airport anymore. You must book it via the NUSUK APP before you arrive at the airport for your departure flight. Without the app booking, the airport staff may refuse to sell it to you.

5. The Hijrah Route: Makkah to Madinah

The 450km journey through the desert is spiritual but long. While the train is fast (2 hours), many pilgrims prefer our VIP Private Transfer for one reason: Ziyarah.
